Union Bank installs world’s highest ATM
Recently, Union Bank of India installed a Diebold 1062 ix front-loading ATM in Kupup, India, making it the world’s highest ATM at 14,300 feet, reports Hindustan Times. The ATM is equipped with a depositor unit and two cassettes. It primarily serves army personnel along the Sino-India border, but also serves tourists.

The ATM only functions during the day and is powered by a generator. It also has the capability to function in subzero temperatures, thanks to three room heater units the bank has provided. According to Rupinder Anand, Diebold’s director, professional and managed services, India, the ATM is expected to receive lots of attention. “With a unit of 2,000 military officials nearby, transactions per day are forecasted to rise exponentially,” said Anand. Additionally, Diebold provides managed services including remote monitoring, first-line management, cash optimization and more for Union Bank’s ATMs.

Diebold Moves Up Six Spots On Fortune 500 2007 Ranking
Diebold recently ranked 665th on the Fortune 500 annual listing of the largest corporations in the United States. Companies are ranked in terms of gross revenue, or any revenue that is publicly available. Last year, Diebold was ranked 671st.

Event monitoring center associates earn
advanced operator online training certification
Recently, all associates at Diebold’s U.S. event monitoring centers earned advanced operator online training course certification through the Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA). This certification includes topics about handling difficult customer situations, specialty alarms, receiver formats and communications paths, enhancing customer service skills and managing false dispatches.

CSAA is a trade association representing providers, users, bureaus and other agencies of UL-listed Central Station protection services. It is also legally entitled to represent its members before Congress, regulatory agencies on the local, state and federal levels, and other authorities having jurisdiction over the industry.

“This advanced level of certification puts us among the elite monitoring stations across the country,” said Steve Ipson, Diebold's director, monitoring services. “It really shows our customers that we are committed to enhancing the professionalism of our workforce through a third-party measurement.”

Diebold vault first in heavyweight category to receive GSA certification
Diebold’s Class M vaults, or heavyweight vaults, were recently certified by the General Services Administration (GSA) as having met the requirements of government specification AA-V-2737, making Diebold the only supplier to have a heavyweight vault listed on the GSA’s Qualified Products List (QPL).

In order to be placed on the QPL, the vault underwent extensive testing from both the GSA and Underwriters Laboratories. During the tests, individuals tried to break into the vault using a full range of power tools, ensuring its impenetrability against any level of intruder for a minimum of 15 minutes.

“The fact that Diebold’s vaults attained a listing on the qualified products list allows government agencies to buy our product with the knowledge that it conforms to formal government specifications,” said James Pellegrene, Diebold's senior product manager, physical security division. “It positions Diebold as a favored supplier over competitive products that have not achieved a listing on the QPL, and will increase our sales opportunities in the government market.”

Diebold global information security leader presents at
RILA conference
B. Scott Harroff, Diebold’s chief information security architect, global security division, was a featured speaker at the Retailers Industry Leaders Association (RILA) Loss Prevention, Auditing and Safety Conference at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, Texas, April 16-19.

During his presentation titled “Protecting Critical Systems and Customer Data Using a Proactive vs. Reactive Security Model,” he explored the implications of using such a model in the retail environment, asserting that instead of reacting to new threats in a data network, proactive monitoring and prevention of unauthorized user access is much more effective.
