Schools use DieboldDirect’s pink VAT carriers as time capsules
to preserve history
Students at Windemere Elementary School in Ellet, Ohio, recently used Diebold’s pink vacuum air tube (VAT) carriers, designed to promote breast cancer awareness, for a time capsule project to mark the closing of the school before it is torn down to make way for a new one.

With so many choices, its second-grade students had no trouble deciding what to include. They prepared a timeline with personal information including likes and dislikes, a jump drive with pictures of Akron and Cleveland, a list of current gas prices and price predictions for the future, and information and facts concerning breast cancer. In 2018, Windemere students will return to dig up the time capsules, noting how society has change politically, economically and socially, and hopefully, how medicine evolved to find a cure for breast cancer.

“We were very happy to assist in preserving history for students,” said Pamela Barron, director, DieboldDirect. “Diebold's caring campaign is all about reaching out to people, and this is a great example of how we can help."

This project is only the start of a multi-faceted effort to utilize VAT carriers for time capsule projects at grade schools throughout the United States. Barron expects more and more schools to participate in similar projects in the future.

Diebold unlocks mystery of 108-year-old safe
More than 30 years after its combination was lost, two Diebold associates unlocked the mystery of a 108-year-old cannonball safe located in the Allegheny Courthouse controller's office in Pittsburgh, Pa. During the last few years, the controller’s office entertained several bids to open the safe, but never accepted any – until Diebold offered to open the safe for free.

“We thought it would be a great idea to get involved and help the county,” said Diebold’s George Lambert, manager, GSL, repair/banklock.  “This is one of Diebold’s areas of expertise, and we were glad to be able to serve the community in this way.”

The safe, manufactured by Hibbard-Rodman-Ely Inc., measured approximately 5 ½ feet tall, 4 feet wide and 2 ½ feet deep, and weighed about 10 tons. It contained various items including old general ledgers, bond records and miscellaneous items such as pencils, envelopes and stationery.

Diebold’s remote marketing software enhances bank’s branding efforts through its ATM network
When Axis Bank rebranded itself from UTI Bank, it required a comprehensive re-branding campaign across its self-service network. There was a need to closely coordinate all its marketing activities, such as replacing all UTI Bank references on ATM screens with the Axis Bank name and logo, on a very tight schedule. To ensure that deadlines were met and new ATM screens were created and deployed, Axis Bank partnered with Diebold to successfully execute the campaign across its network using Diebold’s remote marketing software.

Axis Bank needed a robust tool for delivering timely and customer-specific marketing messages through its ATM network. Diebold’s software enables Axis Bank to build and maintain advertising campaigns, schedule campaign distribution, and download and activate rotational campaigns. It also allows the bank to cross-sell and up-sell products to its customers via ATM screens, and helps in decreasing cost on distribution of screens across the channel.

During the rebranding process, Diebold played an integral role in creating various language screens for the financial institution – from translation to ideation. Overall, more than 400,000 screens were downloaded on nearly 2,000 ATMs during this time.

Axis Bank continues to use this software to deploy new screens across its entire ATM network, providing customers with timely information to enhance their banking experience.

Security technology expert to present at National Food Safety and Security Council Conference and Exposition
B. Scott Harroff
, Diebold’s chief information security architect, will share his knowledge of proactive security methods at the National Food Safety and Security Council Conference and Exposition on Tuesday, July 29, at The Gaylord Texan in Grapevine, Texas. His presentation titled, “Regulatory Compliance versus Hacker Proof: Is my customer’s data really bullet resistive?” will focus on how customized, proactive security systems protect business assets – both physical and logical.

Harroff will also discuss the necessary steps in creating a proactive security model including assessing risk, protecting a retail business from the inside out and devising a plan for proactive monitoring. “The retail industry has worked diligently to find the most effective ways to protect against the multiple factors affecting shrink,” Harroff said. “Today, however, protecting customers’ data, business records and even pricing details is essential, and can go a long way in preventing damage to a retailer’s brand, reputation and bottom line. It’s critical to understand that a logical security breach can be much more detrimental to a business’s bottom line than everyday shrink.
