Innovative Diebold product earns IDEA Award
A concept automated teller machine (ATM) created by Diebold in 2004
has been selected as a winner of the Industrial Designers Society of
America (IDSA) Industrial Design Excellence Awards (IDEA). Nearly
1,400 entrants competed in 50 subcategories of the competition,
which is cosponsored by IDSA and BusinessWeek magazine.
Winners also included Nike, HP and Apple.
Diebold earned the
award for Vectra, a concept ATM designed to test the
feasibility
of using haptic technology in an ATM user interface. Haptic
technology is based
on the sense of touch. Vectra’s design replaced the
traditional keypad and
function keys with a dial, a strategy that could ultimately result
in a more secure,
more accessible ATM.

Thailand’s largest financial institution deploys
Diebold’s Opteva® ATMs, Agilis® software
Bangkok Bank Public Company Limited (BBL), Thailand’s largest
financial institution, has purchased 650 Diebold Opteva® ATMs
running Diebold’s Agilis® software. The terminals will be deployed
throughout 600 BBL branches. BBL operates a network of 1,700 ATMs.
Opteva ATMs are powered by Agilis, Diebold’s open,
high-performance software, which is capable of interfacing with a
variety of multiple-vendor products, reducing the need for backend
support. BBL has deployed Agilis 91x, a prepackaged, Windows®-based
application for use in ATMs that communicate to networks using
Diebold’s legacy messaging format.
Diebold ABM design meets Canadian standards
Diebold has received a “letter of attestation” from the Canadian
Standards Association, Canada’s leading developer of standards and
codes, confirming that the company’s Opteva automated banking
machines (ABMs) comply with its accessibility standards for older
adults and people with disabilities. The attestation pertains to
Diebold’s Opteva 500, 520, 720 and 760 terminals.
Diebold’s Opteva family of ABMs offers visually
impaired customers total access to the same banking functions
available to sighted customers. The voice-guided ABMs work with
standard headsets – owned by many people within the visually
impaired community – that plug directly into the ABM, enabling users
to receive private vocal instructions. Opteva terminals also
provide a consistent customer transaction flow and an intuitive,
user-friendly interface.
