We can take
an ATM network, Web-enable it through the existing network infrastructure
using our OPTinet(TM) software application, and turn it into a retail
outlet that enables businesses to offer customized products and services
to consumers.
If we can
do this, then shouldn't we able to use our technological leadership, software
development skills and talented people in other ways... in ways that strengthen
customer relationships and increase revenues?
The answer
is clearly "yes," and during 2000 we took important steps toward
this goal. First, we launched a new corporate Web site, which provides
convenient access to our range of product and service solutions. The new
site will serve as the gateway for conducting e-commerce with our customers.
It's the foundation upon which we're developing tools - such as dedicated
extranets that enable business partners to subscribe to personalized information
and process orders with con- tract pricing - that significantly enhance
the ordering and distribution of products and services and that streamline
the supply-chain management process.
Our efforts
during 2000 were part of our overall plan to use our e-commerce capabilities
to achieve creative, technologically-enabled relationships with our customers
around the world. Our ultimate goal in this area: make the Diebold name
synonymous with e-business in the markets we serve.
