Diebold continues to aggressively add to a global distribution system, enabling the Company to be a worldwide partner of choice for customers.

SELF-SERVICE DEPLOYERS EVERYWHERE are seeking to increase convenience for consumers and decrease costs. Diebold is working hard to become their partner of choice by building relationship-based sales and service organizations around the globe that can provide a combination of innovative technology and customer-specific services.

A major emphasis has been building a European distribution network. During the past year, Diebold set up direct operations or secured partners in Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Russia, Poland, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Turkey, Lithuania, Slovenia, Kazakhstan, Croatia, Ukraine and Belarus. In addition, we significantly expanded the United Kingdom operation.

In the Middle East, Diebold completed the distribution network by appointing distributors and service partners in Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. The network provides a full complement of sales, marketing and customer support. In Africa, Diebold added a distributor in Egypt and a sales organization to its South African presence.

A geographic region with great potential for rapid growth is Asia-Pacific, and Diebold has moved aggressively to build a stronger position in this market. In China, Diebold's new sales and service organization complements existing manufacturing operations. Diebold also established a subsidiary to provide sales and service in Thailand. We set up or maintained distributor contracts in Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. In Australia, Diebold transformed a subsidiary from a single-line business to a full-scale provider of self-service solutions and services.

Acquisitions also played a significant role in rounding out distribution channels. In Latin America, Diebold solidified its market position with the acquisition of Brazil-based Procomp and two sales and service providers in Colombia. These acquisitions built on a joint venture formed in 1998 in Argentina, now called Diebold DPB, S.A., and a subsidiary, Diebold Argentina, as well as Diebold's strong presence in Mexico and Venezuela since the early 1990s. In Europe, Diebold's pending purchase of the financial self-service assets of Getronics NV and Groupe Bull will greatly expand our distribution network in that region.

internationally positioned for performance, Diebold expects increasing growth.

REACHING THE CUSTOMERS

When a consumer pushes the buttons at a self-service device, the payoff is convenient access to a wide variety of services. To make sure consumers are satisfied, Diebold supports the local self-service deployer from initial planning right through to maintenance. In 1999, Diebold made significant progress toward completing the infrastructure for worldwide distribution of convenient self-service solutions.
