Customer: AmSouth Bank
Benefits Summary: The immediate benefits
of converting CCTV surveillance systems from an analog to a digital format are
improved quality and reliability.
“We reached the point where a lot of our VCRs in the branches needed
to be replaced,” recalls Roy Wilson, AmSouth’s vice president for
security. “We like using state-of-the-art solutions and recognized digital
technology as the way to go for two reasons: it’s a stronger security tool,
and it’s simpler to manage and maintain.”
A Stronger Security Tool
When AmSouth executives installed AccuTrack, they also upgraded the
surveillance with new color cameras, resulting in significantly enhanced
graphic images that can be used as evidence to solve criminal investigations.
One of our cameras actually caught an image of the getaway car outside the
branch,” says Wilson. “The police were able to identify it and found the
car abandoned about a mile from the branch.” AccuTrack’s digital images
are considerably easier and quicker to access and distribute than analog taped
images. Rather than visually scanning a tape, AccuTrack users can advance
directly to images indexed by time of day and day of the week, or a
pre-configured event, a convenient feature that saves bank employees time and
money.
“Getting images from tape to investigators use to take several days,”
says Wilson. “With AccuTrack, I can instantly review the camera images from
my computer and send them via email as JPEG files. Following a recent robbery,
I had the images at the branch when the authorities arrived to
investigate.”
AccuTrack images are encrypted for security and authentication so they can
be displayed by authorities as evidence in courtrooms.
Simplified
Administration and Maintenance
Branches typically rely on someone in the office to change and log videotapes
used in conventional VCRs. With the AccuTrack system, there are no tapes to
change, no footage to log, and no extensive video library to maintain, which
reduces the amount of staff time needed to retrieve critical
information.
Unlike other digital video systems, Diebold’s AccuTrack requires no
special software to access or view the images. Anyone within AmSouth’s
seven-state network with a personal computer and the proper access
authorization can search, view and print images from the system via an
Internet browser.
To further enhance the capabilities of the AccuTrack solution, Diebold
developed the Global Enterprise Manager system (GEM), which regularly checks
the status of all AccuTrack units on the network, the operating condition of
the system, and the available space remaining on the hard disk. GEM also
verifies that the related system components, including the camera and network
connection, are working properly.
“With GEM, we don’t have to send someone out for routine maintenance
checks, we can do it remotely” says Wilson. “If GEM detects a problem, it
generates an email to me with an alert. The system can also be setup to
automatically issue a service call request, and it keeps a log of all activity
so we can review the data to identify trends or prevent potential
problems.”
Totally Digital
When AmSouth’s analog VCRs are scheduled for removal, they’re replaced
with Diebold’s AccuTrack digital video system. Besides upgrading all of some
599 branches, AmSouth has also begun installing the AccuTrack two-camera
system at its ATM locations. Wilson is a firm believer in the benefits of
AccuTrack. “I've seen the system from its beginnings, and the effort that
Diebold makes to provide continued enhancements. I've spoken to other banks
and I highly recommend AccuTrack.”
