Project:
Replace VCR-based surveillance systems with digital technology
Project Size:
150 AccuTrack systems
Benefits Summary:
The primary benefit of
the digital system is its immediacy.
Nowhere does digital video offer more potential benefits than in the
surveillance of off-premise ATMs. Not only is continuous surveillance a critical
security issue, legislatively mandated in many states, but remote sites offer
particular challenges with regard to maintenance that can be solved by replacing
traditional analog VCRs with digital video servers.
Until recently, the size and cost of most digital systems was not well suited
to off-premise ATM sites requiring just one or two cameras. That's why Diebold
is introducing a new addition to its family of AccuTrackTM digital video
systems. The AccuTrack 200 supports up to two camera inputs and up to two ATM
communications connections. The compact unit is easily integrated into the ATM
site and features a 20GB hard drive, which provides plenty of room to store
images.
Roy Wilson, vice president of security at AmSouth, a beta test site
for the AccuTrack 200, says not having to contract with first-line service
providers to change video tapes is a big advantage. AmSouth has been operating
about 150 AccuTrack systems in its branches for more than a year. According to
Wilson, the primary benefit of the digital system is its immediacy.
"One of our branches was robbed today," Wilson said. "As soon as we got the
alarm, we were looking at the pictures. We were able to give the police a
descript ion of the get-away vehicle and we e-mailed pictures to the branch and
had them waiting for the FBI when they arrived. That kind of immediate response
would never have been possible with our old VCRs.
Wilson sees the ability to respond quickly to disputes over ATM transactions
or night drops to be especially helpful with regard to ATM surveillance. "With
the AccuTrack system, transaction disputes can be resolved quickly, many times
while the customer is still on the phone."
