A formal environmental management system provides a
framework for a holistic, strategic approach to an organization’s
environmental activity, including:
- The ability to identify and control the environmental impact
of a facilities activities, products or services
- Continually improve its environmental performance
- Implementation of a systematic approach to set environmental
objectives and targets, achieve those targets and demonstrate
they have been achieved
ISO 14001
not only describes an environmental management system, it requires a
formal external audit of the system to assure it completeness and
implementation.
