Michael Dean, Senior Service Technician
When I joined Diebold in 1979 as a remote service technician, I single-handedly covered 12 counties in North Carolina. With the work of two other colleagues, the three of us serviced 25 percent of Diebold’s customers in the entire state. And though I witnessed the company evolve in many ways for the past 30 years, my role as a technician has changed very little. Our focus has always been placed on our customers and superior service, but adjusting our products to the ever-changing world of technology has been one of our biggest challenges and successes.
From traditional products, to ATMs and electronic banking, software applications, fire services and more, Diebold has successfully managed to do what is necessary to stay competitive in more than one industry. And with technology changing so rapidly, the amount of information available can sometimes be overwhelming. No longer is it common to carry a stack of manuals on the job, simply because they do not contain enough information to be entirely knowledgeable about a product or service.
As a new associate, I was assigned to service our conventional equipment, such as vaults, vacuum air tubes (VATs) and electronic security products, plus the only three ATMs in eastern North Carolina, which were part of the TABS 500 product line. Eventually my team grew by one technician, and the four of us created an effective service team that communicated regularly with each other and customers so all service issues were resolved as soon as possible. Our goal was to make the work in our territories most effective and rated with the highest customer satisfaction in the state. Working together as a team helped us achieve our goal.
It has been three decades since I began my career with Diebold, and I am still servicing products in about 12 counties with a team of four technicians. Sometimes a former colleague and I will talk about our expertise on equipment that is now obsolete, due to enhancements in technology. However, Diebold’s support of new technology has helped it evolve and survive beyond some of its old, long-time competitors.
I have continued to stay with the company because throughout the years, my colleagues have become like family. Though we have our disagreements from time to time, we resolve them and work closely together to achieve common goals. The most appealing aspect about working for Diebold is the fact that no two days are alike. I constantly encounter something new or different to do every day. We have always been a changing company that welcomes new ideas and suggestions, allowing Diebold to remain a strong and competitive company. |
