Our Name Changes, But Always Includes Diebolds
Our company has undergone a number of name changes since its founding in 1859, either to reflect a change in ownership or product mix. But the name of the founder, Carl (Charles) Diebold, has always been a part of the company’s moniker.
Here’s how the Diebold company name has changed over time.
1859: Company begins business under the name Diebold, Baumann and Company.
1870: Kienzle buys out Baumann’s company interest. The firm becomes known as Diebold & Kienzle. Baumann joins Gustav Mosler in the safe-making business.
1874: Company adds John W. Norris to the partnership and changes its name to Diebold, Norris & Company.
1876: Diebold Safe & Lock Company is incorporated. Eight Canton businessmen join the company along with their infusion of capital to help the company grow. Carl (Charles) Diebold oversees production operations.
1943: Name changes to Diebold, Incorporated, to reflect the company’s gradual diversification into banking and office equipment plus other pursuits, such as microfilming. |
